Network Equipment Tracking Service

The purpose of NETS is to help assure a safe and secure computer networking environment by working to mitigate the threats posed by potentially harmful devices, such as systems infected with viruses, or operating with exploitable vulnerabilities or dangerous misconfigurations.

NETS is a system to track and manage devices attached to the Berkeley Lab computer network. The system keeps track of devices; registers the people (both employees and visitors) responsible for the use and maintenance of those devices; scans devices for network vulnerabilities; and isolates devices that are infected with viruses or otherwise pose threats to others.

One of the most important and visible functions of NETS is NETS Registration. This is the process by which all network equipment, and the people responsible for that equipment, are registered with Berkeley Lab. For details about registration, you will find various links on the NETS home page.
