Federated Authentication
Federated authentication employs technologies such as Shibboleth to allow local identity systems (such as LBL LDAP) to provide identification to remote (non-LBL) applications.
Currently, LBL is in the process of deploying this technology.
LBL has joined the InCommon Federation, and is in the process of joining the UCTrust Federation.
Currently, the estimated, but not guaranteed, implementation date for the Shibboleth technology and functioning membership in both federations is the latter half of FY08.
