Procurement and the Delivery Process
Once a requisition is entered, the order can take between 15 – 18 days before it is delivered to the end user. 10 of these days are associated with the vendors build and ship process. Contact your requisition preparer for status concerning the order and subsequent shipment to the lab. When the IT Division takes custody of the computer, you will be notified via email. For assistance during this phase, call the Help Desk at x4357.
LBNL Processing Steps
- When the computer arrives at the Lab, it will be tagged with a DOE property number and entered into the Lab’s property database. The property tag number and serial number of the computer will be noted on the packing slip, which will be delivered with the computer.
- Computers are sent directly to the person who ordered it. (Note: all primary computer replacements for those customers supported by the WSC program - OPS and the Lab directorate - go directly to the IT Division's Mac/PC Support Group (MPSG) from receiving as all these systems are ordered by the support organization).
- If you want MPSG to put the lab standard image on a computer you ordered, contact the help desk (x4357) and request this service. Typical turn around for this is 3 days.
- IT Division staff will contact the recipient to arrange set up and installation as well as ask about any special software requirements. Installation, data transfer, other software or hardware installations are recharged at current T&M rates.
Special Considerations
- The IT Division provides Microsoft and Adobe Products (among others) on our software download site (software.lbl.gov). This provides an audit trail as well as an electronic capability to transfer software titles to other staff members when it is no longer needed by the initial recipient.
- Dell desktop and laptop computers are the current IT recommended standard. They can be ordered through eBuy via the Anacapa/Dell site. LBNL participates in the UC-wide contract with Dell and takes advantage of standard configurations that are priced out each quarter. Each of these standards can be customized. In addition, Dell's entire catalog is available on this custom Premier page.
