First-Time Users

As a first time user, please take the time to read through the links on the left hand side of this page. They have been placed in a sequence that most resembles the start to finish process of selecting and ordering equipment. Also included is a list of frequently asked questions that should address some of your concerns.

We would like you to be particularly aware of the following:

1. Major Steps in Ordering Equipment

  • Review the Overview including the policy reference concerning the purchase of standard computers.
  • Go to the Selection page, review recommendations, and choose the path that best meets your needs.
  • Follow the link to the recommended sources for each category:  http://www.lbl.gov/IT/computer-store/.  Some items are available using eBuy and others require the standard ePro process.
  • Have a Requisition Preparer enter an ePro requisition for your system with the quote # or go directly to eBuy and order the system. Note: approver requirements are enforced, no matter which path you take.

2. Academic Discounts

  • Any Lab computer (those identified with a DOE number) must use software which is properly licensed.
  • The lab does not receive academic discounts from all its vendors. Microsoft is the most prominent of these.
  • Quotes that end users acquire using various internet resources may not apply to the lab. Always try to use lab contract vehicles to research equipment for pricing that will apply to the lab.
