Rent-a-Database
ISS will provide the following for a base price of $100/month for the first 5 GB:
- A production Oracle 8i or higher database (up to highest Oracle version supported by ISS) to house agreed-upon application(s)
- Ongoing Oracle database administration (including disk management, Oracle version upgrades, etc.)
- Backup of the database and recovery of data. Note: The RAID storage system on the Unix database servers makes recovery due to disk failure extremely unlikely. Thus, recovery will most likely be precipitated by some sort of "disaster" (water damage, machine room fire, catastrophic earthquake, etc.). ISS has disaster recovery plans in place. In all but the catastrophic scenario (where both 50B and 937 machine rooms are destroyed), all application production data that was entered up to an hour (or less) prior to the event will be recovered. In the catastrophic scenario (both 50B and 937 machine rooms are destroyed), data that was entered up to a week (or less) prior to the event will be recovered, using backup tapes from offsite. Elapsed time to recover may be hours to days, depending on the nature of the disaster.
- A Sun Solaris hardware platform for the database. Ongoing Unix systems administration provided for the database server.
- A parallel development environment, including a separate Oracle 8i or higher development database, up to the highest ISS-supported version of Oracle.
- One Oracle license (note that a Web server accessing the database constitutes one Oracle license). Additional Oracle licenses are required for developer staff (see below).
- Disk space for the application data in the production database (up to 100MB).
- Availability of the database normally 6x24, 1x23. Scheduled hardware maintenance will occur ~once per month and may take a couple of hours to a day. ISS gives at least one week advance notification of scheduled down time due to maintenance. ISS does not have a hardware or software failover system in place.
Additional charges that could be incurred using the Rent-a-Database service include:
- $100/month for each additional Oracle license
- Storage rates over 5 GB can be negotiated.
These terms of service will apply for one year, at which time ISS and the customer will reassess the level and cost of support.
