Web-Based LETS Interface Being Rolled Out Across the Lab

The Information Systems and Services Department has developed a Web-based version of LETS, the Berkeley Lab Employee Time Reporting System, and is rolling it out across the Lab. As each division is brought on line, brown bag training sessions will be offered. Hands-on training is being offered to timekeepers and approvers.

The new Web-based user interface, called WebLETS, is a Java-based application, and will work on Windows-based workstations, Macintosh and Sun Sparc workstations. The current character-based LETS will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. Time entry for Contract Labor is not available in WebLETS, but continues to be available via character-based LETS. Users may use either the current character-based or the new Web version, but not simultaneously.

Running WebLETS on the PC requires either the Netscape Navigator v. 4.75 or the Internet Explorer v. 5 browser.

To run on either a PC or Sun workstation, WebLETS requires an easy-to-install plug-in, which is available on the CIS Software Download page.

Macintosh users with OS8 and above will need MRJ (Mac Runtime Java). For information on this installation, please call the Help Desk at 4357.

Hands-on training is being offered for timekeepers, approvers and employees by the Payroll staff. Classes are held in Bldg. 51L.

For information on the classes, contact Nancy Lee at X5133. Demonstrations are offered at division roll out or upon request. For more information, see the LETS webpage. Questions? Send an email to letsteam@lbl.gov.
