Micron PCs – Prices Are Down Again, Performance Is Up

Prices have been reduced again for Micron PCs purchased through the Lab’s Basic Ordering Agreement ( BOA). In the case of the lower-priced Celeron model, the processor speed has been upgraded to 733 MHz (from 667 MHz).

However, the prices for 21-inch monitors has gone up, so the biggest overall reductions are for systems purchased without montors. For example, Configuration I (Linux OS and 1 GHz Micron with no monitor) dropped from $1,360 to $1,021, a reduction of $339 or almost 25 percent.

Even with the higher monitor price, overall prices for systems with 21-inch monitors are lower. For example,  Configuration H (Linux OS and 1 GHz Micron with a 21-inch monitor) slid from $1,943 to $1,769, a drop of $174 or 9 percent

Specifications and prices for all the standard configurations are available on the Web.

Here is a description of the software package for employees who choose to have the Windows 98 or Windows2000 standard load put on their systems.
