Tip of the Month – Password Changes Can Affect Multiple Applications

LDAP Technology (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is being used by more and more applications that are being developed and used at the Lab today. Applications currently using LDAP are email-IMAP4, Calendar, IRISv2, Sunflower Asset Management and the latest web-based Employee Parking Form. LDAP is a means of authentication of users’ employee id or name against our HR database.

What you need to remember is that when you forget your password for any one of these programs, you can call the Lab’s Computer Support Help Desk at X4357 to have it reset. However, if you change your password for one LDAP-related application, it is a password change for all of them. The Help Desk staff will check when someone calls to have their password reset, and confirm if they have IMAP4 mail and Calendar and advise them accordingly.

As always, once you can get back into the programs you should always change your password and not give it out.
