Tektronix Phaser Z360
Color Printers May Have Overheating Problems Xerox Corp., which recently bought the Tektronix printer line, has identified a potential problem with the Tektronix Phaser Z360 color printer. The model in question came out between two and three years ago and there are at least a handful of them at the Lab. The problem concerns a potentially defective microswitch on the printer. This switch shuts off the printer when it detects temperatures exceeding the safe operating limit. This particular model of printer require sufficient ventilation and needs at least four inches of clearance near the right side intake and the back end exhaust to avoid overheating. If the printer has a defective microswitch and insufficient ventilation, the overheating problem would not be detected and could cause a fire. The Computing Infrastructure Support Department would like to hear from anyone at the Lab with a Tektronix Phaser Z360 color printer. CIS is particularly interested in locating printers with the serial numbers B8D0591 and B8B6705. If you own one of these two, or have one CIS is not aware of, please submit a help request and CIS will arrange to have a Xerox technician come out and do a 90-minute upgrade at no charge. You can also call the Help Desk at X4357. Remember that with proper ventilation, the printer will not cause a problem, so your first action should be to ensure proper airflow is available. |
