Fixed-Price Desktop Tune-up, Diagnostic Service Provides Preventative Maintenance

Computer running a bit slow? The Computing Infrastructure Support Department's Mac/PC Support Group is now offering a desktop tune-up service at a fixed price. The service covers a wide range of preventative maintenance tasks, such as disk defragmentation, upgrades to Netscape, virus protection and Novell Client software, and application of Microsoft Office patches. As an additional service, The Mac/PC Support Group will provide inventory data (DOE number, computer name and location) to the appropriate Division Property Management Representative. The service is provided at the fixed price of a one-hour service call ($90). Find out more about what the service covers.

"What we offer is a desktop tune-up and diagnosis, similar to what you get when you take your car in for routine service," said Desktop Support Manager Charlie Verboom. "However, I do need to point out that this is not the computer equivalent of a complete engine overhaul. We can do that, but not for this fixed-rate price."

A similar preventative maintenance service is offered for supported Hewlett-Packard and Apple printers.
