Library Revamps Web Site to Help Employees Publish Scientific and Technical Reports

If you're the author of a scientific or technical report involving work at the Laboratory, both DOE and Berkeley Lab policies require that the document be published as an official LBNL report. Any Lab document, whether printed or electronic format and including theses, journal articles, conference papers, book chapters and reports, should be submitted to Report Coordination. They will assign an LBNL report number and ensure that the document has gone through the proper controls, including publication clearance by the Patent Office and sign-off by an approved CS reviewer.

Although the publishing process involves a number of steps, the Library's Report Coordination has set up a comprehensive Web site to help streamline the process.

Remember that publishing a report doesn't require that copies of the report be printed and purchased, but Report Coordination does need a copy of the file, both for loading onto the Lab's Report Database and for sending to DOE. And although the process asks the author for the Project ID number (account number) under which the work was performed, there is no charge for the basic service.
