Tip of the Month: Norton Anti-Virus Program - Time to upgrade!

Last year, the Laboratory adopted Norton AntiVirus software as the standard for detecting and eliminating computer viruses. The Norton software is easier to use than other applications, but it's important to make sure that you have the latest version on your computer. The software is available at no charge to Lab employees through a site-wide license. If you need help installing the software, or have questions about Norton AntiVirus, contact the Computer Support Help Desk at X4357.

PC Users: You should upgrade to the latest version of Norton AntiVirus, which is version. 5.02. It is important to note that you should un-install F-Prot before installing the Norton application. To find this software, click here and scroll down through the list to the heading "Virus Protection."

Macintosh Users: The latest version of Norton AntiVirus is 6.0, which is fully compatible with Apple OS9 (operating system version 9). Unfortunately, the previous version of Norton AntiVirus, 5.03, crashes OS9 on boot due to the auto-protect extension conflict. Norton AntiVirus 5.03 works fine on Macs with an OS older than OS9.

You can find the latest upgrade for Macs by clicking here. Or, use Apple Share to go to the WKSG Server found in Zone R36. Then go to the LBNL Site-Licensed Software/Anti-Virus folder.
