Tip of the Month -
Synching your Palm with Netscape Calendar If you use a Palm computer (up to version III), you can synch your data with the Lab's Netscape Calendar application. And the Computing Infrastructure Technology Group is now testing a new version of Calendar that will allow users of Palm V and Palm V11 PDAs to synch with the application. See the calendar synch Web page for more information. Although the Palm and Calendar can be synched, there are limitations, according to Lab Calendar Master Curtis McDonald. To start with, users should remember that the process works better when pulling information from Calendar to the Palm as opposed to going from the Palm to Calendar. One difference is that the list of attendees in Calendar will wind up in the Notes section on the Palm (if your synch preferences are set up to synch the additional information). Another limitation when creating a meeting on Palm is that you can schedule the time, meeting title and meeting notes and synch them to Calendar, but you must use the Calendar application to invite attendees and schedule resources, such as a meeting room. In addition to allowing users to synch with Palm V and Palm VII, the new version of Calendar is also being tested for compatibility with other hand-held systems, such as Psion and Windows CE PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). The Lab will begin switching over to a new version of Calendar in September, when the servers are updated. While this switch won't affect functionality, users will see a new Web interface. In November, the client application will be upgraded, resulting in new features. Watch for details. |
