New CompUSA-EDS Contract for Desktop Maintenance The Lab is now contracting with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and CompUSA for desktop computer hardware maintenance and repair. The arrangement allows Lab organizations to buy parts using a ProCard. Because the new hardware support team is co-located with the Mac/PC Support Group, the arrangement allows "one-stop shopping" for system repairs and enhancements. Quality-control checks are made to ensure that the work by the outside contractor meets customer expectations. A web site containing more information about this program is under construction. As a side benefit of the contract, CompUSA is offering Berkeley Lab employees an employee purchase plan. The plan allows you to buy specific computer packages from CompUSA's Emeryville store at special prices. The first offer is for training classes. Individual classes of six hours of hands-on training in the most popular business applications are offered at the special rate of $108 per class (regular price is $175 per class). Training memberships, which include all one-day 6.5-hour application classes at Introduction and Intermediate levels for a 3-month period are offered for $395, a $30 discount from the regular price. CompUSA also guarantees their training, giving participants the opportunity to retake a class anytime within 90 days at no addtional cost if they haven't achieved the level of proficiency expected (members can retake the class as often as it's offered in the 3-month time period). For details, contact CompUSA Account Manager Hank Garvey at 510-450-8026. Watch future issues of Computing News for details of other CompUSA offers tailored for LBNL employees. |
