On-Site Training Offered in Various Desktop Applications

The Lab offers a wide range of training classes for computer users. Classes are taught by AIM, an outside computer training vendor. Half-day and one-day courses are given on a variety of desktop applications — Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access and Windows. Recently, Netscape email and Calendaring have been added. All the classes are held on-site in the Lab’s computer training room — Bldg. 51 L — where there are 12 student PCs installed and linked to Lab servers through LBLnet. Also, AIM offers off-site courses at their own training locations (several around the Bay Area, including one in nearby Emeryville).

The cost to the student for each class is $125, which is essentially a re-billing to your account number of those Lab expenses incurred in bringing the training to you.

AIM handles all the registrations. The current method involves faxing a form to AIM, although this will be changed in 1999 to allow using e-mail to register. Information on how to sign up and what sessions are available for you can be found on the web at: http://www.lbl.gov/Workplace/EDT/computers/computer.html
