For Further Reading Two Reports on Different Aspects of Y2K Much is being said and written about the looming potential problems associated with many computer systems’ inability to recognize the year 2000, or y2k, when it rolls around in 13 months. A couple of interesting articles are available on the web. The Oct. 6 issue of "PC Magazine" has a good article on checking your PC’s Basic Input/Output System, the intermediary between a machine's hardware and software, to make sure the computer is y2k compliant. Start reading at: http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/special/y2k/features/main/hardware.html For a survey of y2k issues related to "embedded" systems (where a computer is an integral part of an overall system), look at: http://www.tmn.com/~frautsch/y2k2.html The article explains why some very innocent-appearing systems have the potential to fail in some way or other come the year 2000 and beyond. Finally, if you have any other questions about y2k, check out the Lab’s web site at: http://www.lbl.gov/ICSD/CIS/y2k.html |
