Attention All Linux Users: Help for Securing System is Available
If you have a PC running the Linux operating system, you are a target for malicious hackers. If improperly configured, your system might be compromised and stripped of valuable data, or worse, used as a stepping stone for attacks against other systems. Last month, a Linux user here at the Lab lost significant data because of a malicious hacker who exploited Linux vulnerabilities to break in and destroy data. Help is available! The UNIX Support Group from the Computing Infrastructure Support Department (CIS) has developed a web site detailing how to make your Linux system secure. All Linux users should visit http://www.lbl.gov/ICSD/CIS/UNIX/security/linux/index.html for the necessary fixes. Or, we can fix your system for you, as well as providing user account services, backups, and access to additional software. Visit http://www.lbl.gov/ICSD/CIS/UNIX/UNIX-linux.html for more details about RedHat Linux support provided by the UNIX Group. |
