Lab Gives Old Blue the Heave-Ho

This IBM mainframe computer which had been running all of the Lab’s administrative applications is on its way out, thanks to server technology. After a five-year phaseout of the machine, ICSD employees (from left) Joe Barahona, Stu Loken, George Porter, Carl Eben and Ed Masuoka lent a hand to help lead the computer workhorse to greener pastures. The machine has been sold to a Napa firm which provides services to various counties in the state. The Lab’s old system has been largely replaced by UNIX servers running Oracle and PeopleSoft applications.
