Department Overview

The CIS Department was created in August 1997 as part of the Information Technologies & Services Sciences Division (ITSD). The Department was established to oversee and manage the Laboratory's computing infrastructure as well as to deliver centralized computing services and capabilities.
  • Customer Interface Group (CIG)
    CIG oversees the Support Center (a.k.a. Help Desk) and handles the customer outreach activities for the Department.
  • Computing Services Group (CSG)
    CSG provides the Laboratory with centralized computing support. These services include systems support for PC, Unix, and Macintosh computers as well as support for data backups, printing, etc.
  • Computing Infrastructure Technology Group (CITG)
    CITG has overall responsibility for the Berkeley Lab computing infrastructure, which includes things like Email, Web servers, directory services, etc.
