The study of the environment involves complex scientific issues. Our natural environment is heavily impacted by our living and working patterns. Scientific, engineering, and economic issues interact to create the environmental problems that we face today. As a result, research often involves a multidisciplinary approach. In order to understand and advance environmental science, research at LBNL is conducted by over 100 physicists, engineers, chemists, architects, economists, computer scientists, life scientists through LBNL's Energy and Environment Division.
Within the Division, the Environmental Research Program investigates environmental pollution, and the Indoor Environment Program measures indoor pollutants and their sources. These exciting research programs are working to advance our understanding of environmental issues and to help advance new answers to reducing air pollution.
