0 Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory provides talented high school students from the San Francisco Bay Area with paid summer internships in science, engineering, technology, computing sciences, and related area.

    Students will work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the Laboratory's research programs. Assignments cover a wide range of laboratory tasks such as preparing solutions and media, preparing equipment, making buffers, completing routine lab maintenance duties, and assisting in basic research.

    In addition to their research assignments, interns will write a scientific abstract, prepare a power point presentation at the end of the program, participate in a variety of workshops, and attend lectures and seminars.

    The internship runs from June 25 through August 8, 2008.

    Interns will receive a stipend of $2,000

Eligibility
Applicants must be:

  • At least 16 years old by June 25, 2008
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • High school junior in the 2007-2008 academic year
  • Attending school in the San Francisco Bay Area
    (The nine SF Bay Area counties are Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma)

    Selection
    Reviewers will consider the applicant's demonstrated interest in science, engineering, mathematics, and related fields; academic grades, especially in science and mathematics courses; and teacher recommendations.
    Preference will be given to students from the Oakland, Berkeley, and West Contra Costa County School Districts.
