FAQs

The Department of Energy's Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) is the largest of the undergraduate research programs at Berkeley Lab. It is open to any undergraduate student who is a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, at least 18 years of age, and enrolled in an accredited U.S. College or University. It is for students in any scientific or engineering discipline.

SULI is conducted at Berkeley Lab as a ten-week summer program and in the fall and spring semesters as a 15-to-16 week program. The program is focused on hands-on research experiences for students from across the nation.

Eighty to ninety percent of each student's time will be spent working within an assigned mentor or research group. Research assignments can be as varied as the Laboratory's research agenda.

In additon to their research assignments, students will participate in an enrichment program of lectues and tours.
All SULI students will be required to write a technical paper or prepare a "power point" slide presentation and will participate in the end-of-summer poster session.
