==========

LBNL's Center for Science and Engineering Education offers research internships to undergraduate students through a number of programs. No matter what program (or source of funding) an undergraduate participates through, all students come together in the Berkeley Lab Undergraduate Research Program.

Applications for summer 2008 are closed.

Undergraduate Research Programs and How to Apply

Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI)
This is one of the largest programs for undergraduates at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The U.S. Department of Energy's SULI program is open to any undergraduate student who is a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, at least 18 years of age, and enrolled in an accredited U.S. College or University. It is for students in any scientific or engineering discipline. You can read about the program as it is conducted at the Berkeley Lab, see some specific research opportunities, and view previous students' work by reading the "SULI" pages.
For specific requirements, the calendar for future semesters, and on-line application, see DOE's SULI site.

Community College Institute (CCI)
The Department of Energy's CCI program is open to students who are attending an accredited Community Colleges. CCI runs for ten weeks in the summer. You can read about the program as it is conducted at Berkeley Lab, see some specific research opportunities, and view previous students' work by reading the "CCI" pages. For specific requirements, the calendar for future summers, and on-line application, see the DOE's CCI site.

Pre-Service Teacher Program (PST)
The DOE's Pre-Service Teacher (PST) program is designed to provide educational training and research experiences at Department of Energy laboratories for a diverse group of highly motivated undergraduate students who are interested in becoming K-12 science, mathematics, and technology teachers. The program allows pre-service teachers to learn about the real world of science, mathematics, and technology, and provides opportunities to creatively transfer this knowledge to the classroom.
You can read about the program as it is conducted at Berkeley Lab, see some specific research opportunities, and view previous students' work by reading the "PST" pages
For specific requirements and on-line application, see the DOE's Pre-Service Teachers site.

Faculty and Student Teams (FaST)
The Faculty and Student Team (FaST) Program is supported by the US Department of Energy in partnership with the National Science Foundation. Faculty from colleges and universities with limited prior research capabilities and those institutions serving populations, women, and minorities underrepresented in the fields of science, engineering, and technology are encouraged to take advantage of the Fast opportunity to prepare students for careers in science, engineering, computer science, and technology and for their own professional development.
For specific requirements and on-line application, see the DOE's Faculty and Student Teams site.
