Introduction
One benefit
of working at Berkeley Lab has been the opportunity to witness
first hand discoveries that have changed for all
time our understanding of the world in which we live. Along
with this benefit has been the privilege to know the people
who have made these discoveries and to watch their personal
struggle to convince the scientific community of the validity
of their work. One of these Berkeley Lab discoveries is that
life on earth has been disrupted by major catastrophic events
such as asteriod impacts that have resulted in mass extinction.
Frank Asaro, nuclear chemist at Berkeley Lab, was part of the
team that made this discovery. This web site provides an insiders
perspective.
Many middle and high school students and teachers who have visited
the Berkeley Lab have had the opportunity to meet Frank Asaro
and see the original poster display documenting the asteriod
impact discovery. This web site is intended to be a resource
for students, teachers and the general public interested science.
It is our hope that visitors to this web site have a better understanding
of the scientific evidence for the asteroid impacts leading to
mass extinction. |
