The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory provides eight-week summer research opportunities for high- and middle-school science teachers. Mentored research experiences with Berkeley Lab investigators are available through two program venues.
Dates for both eight week experiences are June 16 to August 8.
Department of Energy - Academies Creating Teacher Scientists (DOE-ACTS)
Berkeley Lab is a host lab for the Department of Energy planned Academies Creating Teacher Scientists (DOE-ACTS)in the summer of 2008. The DOE-ACTS program is a three year commitment. This program is for teachers of science grades 5-12, with degrees in a scientific discipline, mathematics, or engineering, or equivalent combination of teaching and academic course work. Within DOE-ACTS, Berkeley Lab is offering the Teacher as Research Associate (TARA) component, an eight-week mentored research experience. See TARA Description for details. Industry Initiatives for Science and Mathematics Education
Berkeley Lab partners with Industry Initiatives for Science and Mathematics Education (IISME) http://www.iisme.org/ to provide eight week summer research experiences for high school science teachers. IISME is a one summer program with possibility of a repeat appointment. Descriptions of opportunities with Berkeley Lab research investigators will be posted on the IISME web site after February 15. Applicants should go to the IISME web site and apply for specific opportunities listed under Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.
Support Includes
Stipend of $800/week during academy
