CCI (Community College Institute)

Program Description

This program, run by the Department of Energy, places students from community colleges in paid internships with scientists or engineers on projects related to the Lab's research programs. They also attend career planning and numerous training/informational sessions.

Support includes:

  • $425/week Stipend
  • $1250 Housing supplement
  • Travel supplement when applicable

Audience/Eligibility

  • Students majoring in science or engineering at a Community College
  • US citizenship or permanent resident status required.
  • Participants must have medical insurance during their time at the Lab.

Selection Process

  • Scientists review applications and select a student based on their needs.
  • Please note that selection and placements start well ahead of the application deadline.
  • Apply early to increase your chances of being selected.

Deliverables/
Requirements

  • Complete the full ten week program
  • Complete entrance and exit surveys
  • Submit a complete copy of a research paper and poster
  • Submit an abstract of research in the required format
  • Attend all scheduled events including lectures, tours and group activities.
  • Complete all LBNL safety and procedural requirements
