BLEV: Berkeley Lab Educational Visits

Program Description

Berkeley Lab Educational Visits usually include: 

  • one-to-two hour programs
  • a general introduction to the Lab
  • an appropriate hands-on activity
  • a facility tour linked to subject matter
  • program aligned to the California State Science Standards.  

Audience

  • Students in grades 6-12 in the greater Bay Area
  • Target audiences are public schools from the Berkeley, Oakland and West Contra Costa districts
  • One adult chaperone required for each eight students
  • Class or group size limited to 32 students

 

Key Dates

  • requests accepted: 1-Sept-2009
  • Visits begin: 1-Oct-2010
  • Visits end: 31-May-2010

Requesting a Visit

  • Visits available from October through May
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
  • Visits are cost-free

Preparation/
Expectations

  • Review the packet of information including:
    • science content ideas for preparing students for the visit
    • safety regulations for students and adults during the visit
    • post-visit activities
  • After your visit, complete the provided student and teacher evaluation forms and send to CSEE
