Workforce Diversity

Reflections on Berkeley Lab Computing Science's participation in the 2010 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing:

"It was quite inspiring to be in a room filled with 2100 women representing 29 countries who are in the same or similar career area. I met and spoke to women in different companies, some who are in competing companies but who have come together for the purpose of encouraging women in computing sciences.... Participating at the recruiting booth has expanded my appreciation of the Lab, what wonderful programs we have for students and career staff and more important, what a great place it is to work in."

LBNL Computing Sciences Diversity Working Group

Within Computing Sciences (CS), we recognize that managing diversity requires a comprehensive approach to creating a work environment that values all people and empowers employees to reach their full potential in pursuit of Computing Sciences and Laboratory goals and objectives. Computing Science hiring practices encourage diversity and help to develop a diverse workforce.

The Computing Sciences Diversity Working Group is composed of volunteers from across the organization who are interested in extending and enhancing our diversity activities. The group is engaging in both staff development and outreach programs as well as providing feedback to the Berkeley Lab's Best Practices Diversity Committee.
