For students majoring in Computational Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics and related science and engineering fields, Berkeley Lab Computing Sciences hosts a 12-week research summer program that provides students with the opportunity to gain research experience. Participants will work on computational research projects under the guidance of one or more staff members. Berkeley Lab, located in Berkeley, CA is a world leader in computing, biological, physical, materials, chemical, and energy sciences research.

Climate Research Scientist or Staff Scientist (23261) for the Computational Research Division. The Scientific Computing Group is looking for an experienced Research/Staff Scientist to join the Computational Research Division (CRD) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to participate in a research project to investigate climate changes.

Computational Science Postdoctoral Fellow (23380) for the Computational Research Division. The Scientific Computing Group has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow to work on the development of algorithms and their application to large-scale computational science problems that are relevant to DOE and LBNL.

Computational Science Postdoctoral Fellow (23950) for the Computing Sciences Division. Berkeley Lab is searching for a Computational Postdoctoral fellow that can assist with the Department of Energy's (DOE) Magellan Project which will research how Cloud computing can be used to address the computing needs for the DOE's Office of Science. The project will evaluate Cloud computing's effectiveness to run applications across all areas of science including bioscience, high-energy physics, climate and material science. To perform this work, the fellow will have access to a newly acquired Testbed including a 5760 core cluster. The postdoc will also assist in determining how Cloud computing models can be adapted to mid-range computing and how these models can be integrated into production computing facilities like National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC). Interaction with faculty and students of the University of California, Berkeley and other major research universities is available depending on the specific project. The fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience in the NERSC production environment facility and practical knowledge of the skills necessary for deployment of large-scale multi-user hardware and software.
