Objectives
Following this workshop, you will be able to:
- Write and format a CV that effectively summarizes and highlights your research, teaching, and professional experience
- Refine your cover letter and tailor it to each particular institution
- Apply fundamental strategies when writing your research and teaching statements.
Participants: This course is designed for postdocs and GSRAs.
Course summary
In this free, two-hour session, you will learn how to organize your academic job search, including the various components of the application package. As part of a mock faculty search committee, you will critique candidates based on real sample application materials.
The instructor is Dr. Cynthia Fuhrmann, Assistant Dean, Career & Professional Development, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Fuhrmann teaches workshops regionally and nationally, including annual conferences of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. Dr. Fuhrmann has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UCSF and a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from UC Davis.
