Course summary
What’s an interviewer really looking for in a Ph.D. candidate? How do you answer the tough questions? And what’s the best way to negotiate? In this workshop, Michel Foure, an LBNL scientist with an extensive industry career, will give you his perspectives on what it takes to get the right job in industry.
Objectives
Workshop objectives include:
- Understand the skills and traits that employers are looking for
- Learn how to prepare for the interview
- Learn how to prepare for typical questions – and what to do when it’s your turn to ask
- Understand what’s negotiable and how to do it
Participants: This course is designed for postdocs and GSRAs.
About the Instructor
This free, two-hour session is presented by Michel Foure, Program Manager for the Batteries for Advanced Transportation Technologies (BATT) Program and Deputy for Operations of the Electrochemical Storage and Distributed Resources Department within the Environmental Energy Technologies Division.
Prior to LBNL, Michel served as Director of R&D for Arkema, a $7 billion chemical company, and President and Managing Director of Metablen Company B.V., a joint venture between Arkema’s predecessor and Mitsubishi Rayon. Michel estimates that he interviewed approximately 1,500 candidates at the Ph.D. level during his tenure in industry. He holds a Doctorate in Chemistry from Wurzbug University, Germany and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, NJ.
