Fundamentals of Leading & Motivating People - a course for managers, supervisors and work leads. This 2-day course focuses on learning and practicing leadership, collaboration and communication skills, and on identifying ways to improve performance and project accountability. Scientific, engineering, technical and operations managers, supervisors and work leads will find this course useful and practical. The course will be offered four times in 2008. The Discipline
of Scientific and Technical Presentations
Delivering effective seminar, colloquia,
Division and funding reviews, and other presentations
are key parts of a scientific career. Several scientists
have worked with Berkeley Lab Institute staff to develop
a 2 hour workshop specifically for scientists, technical
professionals, post docs and graduate students on the
crafting and delivery of scientific presentations. There
is no cost for attendance.
Workshop
I will focus on four key areas:
- Speech: the message and targeting the audience
- Structure: the beginning, middle and end
- Visual Aids: PowerPoint slide tips and meaningful
charts
- Delivery Tips: from building credibility, to dealing
with nervousness, to preparation and delivery tips
Workshop
II is a follow-up practice session. This workshop
will include up to 5 participants. Each person will
make a 3-5 minute presentation and the group will critique
based on points learned in the first workshop. Presentations
will also be recorded so participants can review and
reflect on their own performance.
